Community Service Print E-mail

As part of our commitment to the community Bull, Housser & Tupper lawyers and staff frequently become actively engaged with community organizations and events, volunteering both their time and knowledge in addition to their financial support. We work quietly behind the scenes, often as members of boards or in other leadership positions, in order to create actions and outcomes that cause powerful and important changes in the lives and the communities we serve. Following is a partial list of the organizations to which our lawyers and staff have committed their time and other resources.

Junior Achievement British Columbia

We are proud to be a supporter of Junior Achievement's initiative to create the Business Laureates of BC Hall of Fame to honour BC business leaders that have demonstrated unique vision in achieving the highest level of business excellence, while contributing to the prosperity of our Province. By recognizing their achievements, the life of each Hall of Fame Inductee stands as a testament to the positive impact they have made and acts as a shining example for enterprising young British Columbians for generations to come.

Through initiatives such as this Junior Achievement continues to inspire and motivate the next generation of business leaders and laureates.

St. Paul's Hospital

We continue to support the St. Paul's Lights of Hope Program as a Bronze Sponsor. The 2009 Lights of Hope Campaign raised more than $2.02 million.  Since 1998 more than $12 million has been raised for needs throughout St. Paul's.

Salvation Army

Our lawyers and staff have made a long-term commitment to volunteering their time and energy to the Salvation Army's Harbour Light Centre in Vancouver. The Centre operates a daily community feeding ministry to underprivileged men, women and children and over the past 9 years 246 of our lawyers and staff have volunteered at 225 of the Centre's food line sessions.

Each year since 2001 we have raised funds to provide a special dinner at Christmas time which is a highlight for many of the patrons.

In further support of the Centre, every year since 2005 we have made a donation to the Centre's Kitchen Project in lieu of sending greeting cards, which donations have contributed to a complete renovation of the kitchen and refurbishing of the dining hall.

Skate Canada, BC/YT Section

Immediately upon learning that Vancouver won the bid for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games we began looking for ways that we could contribute to the Olympic movement. We were interested in becoming associated with a high profile performance sport and a group of British Columbia athletes that our organization could rally behind and support. We committed to sponsoring Skate Canada, BC/YT Section for five years to actively assist figure skating athletes achieve their dreams and goals.

Skate Canada, BC/YT Section is a registered not-for-profit organization which has been in operation for 42 years. 113 Skate Clubs reach across BC and they have a membership of 18,000 skaters. The Skate Canada Centre of Excellence is a world class, elite training facility at the Burnaby 8 Rinks, Ice Sports Complex. 8 Rinks has been named a Game Plan Performance / Training Centre and many outstanding Canadian elite skaters will be training there leading up to the Games.

In our capacity as an official sponsor of Skate Canada, BC/YT Section not only have we provided much needed financial and legal support, but more importantly provided these deserving and dedicated athletes with our collective enthusiasm and encouragement. Our sponsorship has provided many exciting opportunities for everyone at BH&T to interact with both the organization and the athletes.

United Way

We have been a long time supporter of the work of the United Way. In 2009, our lawyers and staff raised more than $101,000 in support of the United Way Programs and services.

In support of the United Way's Day of Caring program a team of our staff members annually contributes their time and energy to one-day, hands on projects for local non-profit agencies.
