On
call 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.
Protection
and indemnity matters and related shipowners’ work are the
mainstay of our maritime practice. Our practice includes cases relating
to collision, salvage, sinking, fire, stranding, pollution, crew
and passenger injury, labour problems, cargo damage, damage to fixed
and floating objects, charterparty disputes, operating problems
and litigation arising therefrom.
In
Vancouver, we are correspondents for five of the British Protection
and Indemnity Associations and for the China Protection and Indemnity
Association which together underwrite about one-third of the world’s
ocean-going tonnage. We act from time to time for all of the world’s
Protection and Indemnity Associations. The three largest Canadian
tug and barge operators for whom we act span the North American
West Coast and the Canadian Arctic.
Our maritime team is supported by BH&T's 100 other legal specialists
who bring to bear their expertise in all related areas, such as
customs, immigration, regulatory and tax. |

Merle’s duties support the legal process. This includes

chemical spills, dock amage, damage to cargo and other maritime
