  Alex Shorten receives Robert V.A. Jones Canadian Corporate Counsel Award [added April 14/08]

The Robert V.A. Jones Canadian Corporate Counsel Award recognizes an exceptional contribution to the development or the promotion of the Canadian Corporate counsel bar or community, including significant research or writing on related issues.  The 2008 award was presented to Alex Shorten at the CCCA National Spring Conference Gala held in Toronto on April 13, 2008.  Alex has 23 years of experience working in senior legal and management positions for forest products and construction companies combined with 11 years in private practice.  From 1993 to 2006, as Vice President & General Counsel of Weyerhaeuser Canada, Alex worked on many of the largest acquisitions and divestitures in the forest products industry in Canada.  BH&T welcomed Alex to our Forestry Law Group as Associate Counsel in 2007. 

  Shelley O'Callaghan nominated for 2008 YWCA Women of Distinction Award [added April 13/08]

The YWCA Women of Distinction Award encourages and recognizes women whose outstanding activities and achievements contribute to the health and future of the community. Shelley O'Callaghan has been nominated in the Business & the Professions category which recognizes women who are acknowledged in their field for their professional leadership and consistent commitment to excellence, for their ability to leverage their achievements and business acumen to facilitate change and create opportunities, and who demonstrate respect for and engagement with their community, clients and colleagues. Congratulations Shelley on your inspiring achievement of being nominated for what is recognized nationally as one of the most prestigious awards for women. Award recipients will be announced at the 2008 Women of Distinction Awards Gala being held on May 26, 2008.
